Find out more about our most resent team member, Barbara’s experience transitioning from work-placement to an employee and how her university knowledge gave her the understanding, skills and confidence to take on the role.

“I first started at Kalopsia on a placement in my 3 rd year of Fashion Technology at Heriot Watt. I was unexperienced in the fashion industry and didn’t have the understanding of what manufacturing entailed. During my placement I learnt about how to cut and make a variety of client’s products, especially the accessories which I hadn’t done before. I also learnt how a production line worked and how to work fast in a steady paced environment. Kalopsia taught me to produce the diverse products that they offer sustainably, by doing this with as little waste as possible. The skills I have gained have been an extension to what I learned at university.
However, I have been given the ability to pattern make, industrial sew and finish products to a high standard and in an efficient time. After developing my skill and getting to know the team on my placement. To my joy and amazement, I was offered a job and have been working there ever since.

The reason I chose to stay at Kalopsia is because it is not only a great place to work, but they care about so much more than just the work they do.”

Note: Kalopsia has been taken on work-placements from the Fashion Technology course at Heriot Watt since 2018 as part of their 3rd year industry experience. 4 students’s from this course have later been employed by Kalopsia in various roles.
